Alberta teacher nominated for Canadian Family teacher award

Every spring, Canadian Family magazine celebrates teachers by presenting three teacher awards. This year, Jordan Smith, a Grade 6 teacher at Brentwood Elementary School in Sherwood Park, is one of the 12 finalists. A colleague describes Jordan saying, “He truly believes that mind, heart and body have to be nurtured in school, and he does it in so many ways.”

Circa 1948: History in 3D

Looking for a unique way to encourage your students’ interest in history? Internationally renowned artist Stan Douglas and the award-winning National Film Board’s Digital Studio Vancouver have produced an immersive art app that brings history to life. Students will enter the shadows of postwar Vancouver, BC and discover two locations that no longer exist: Hogan’s Alley and the old Hotel Vancouver. Celebrate Recreation and Parks Month

June is Recreation and Parks Month. To celebrate the occasion, the Alberta Recreation and Parks Association (ARPA) has created a number of classroom-friendly challenges. Find out about the 30-day challenge and the high-five challenge by visiting the ARPA website at arpaonline.ca. Participating schools have the chance to win prizes, including a $2,000 Healthy Eating, Active Living grant. 

Lethbridge DEHR committee seeks new members

The newly formed Diversity Equity and Human Rights (DEHR) committee of ATA Local No 41 is looking for new members to join its ranks. This group of dedicated and enthusiastic teachers believes in the vision of DEHR and in the greatness of students, colleagues and community members in the southwest.
